We rose bright and early Saturday morning, Groundhog Day 2013 (February 2), to find a good parking spot at the J Street Marina in Chula Vista. This clear, cold morning promised a once in a lifetime chance to see a controlled implosion of a structure. The South Bay Power Plant was first placed into service in 1960 and decommissioned in 2010. It sits along Chula Vista’s waterfront access to San Diego Bay.
